Our First Donation

Great news! Today we received our first and very generous donation from John's good friend Brendan. We really appreciate the support and are happy that our fundraising is off to a fantastic start.

Not so great news. Another Wednesday, another two shots. Today was the last of the rabies and some typhoid too. The doctor had a good laugh when I asked if it was ok that my arm was still sore from the Hepatitis A and B I got last Wednesday. He actually said that was fantastic news because my body was producing lots of antibodies. Woohoo! I didn't think it was so fantastic to add another shot to my still sore shoulder, but at least the doctor was enthusiastic.

The shots were followed by a lovely chicken burrito, so I can't complain. When I think of all of the amazing work John and I will be doing in Cambodia, a sore shoulder (or two) is just a tiny inconvenience. We will make wheelchairs for people who currently have no way to get around. When I think of those individuals who have been permanently injured due to landmines or polio, I'm happy to stick my arm out to the doctor and say, "I'll take another shot, please!"

Let the planning begin!

So now it looks like we are full steam ahead organizing our trip out to Cambodia! Flights are booked, mosquito nets are on the way, hiking boots to be waterproofed.

Worst so far has been the weekly visits to the doctor for a whole host of vaccinations. You know where to find us every Wednesday at 4pm! When we are finally finished, I think the grand total of shots will be 9. That's 9 each. Plus malaria tablets. Luck for us, there is a burrito place next door to the doctor's office where we have a weekly regroup!

We're so excited to start fundraising for our trip. We are working with the fantastic non-profit organization Globe Aware...you can click here to learn all about our volunteer program. Please let us know if you have any questions and feel free to leave comments here. We plan on keeping you updated throughout our preparations and travel. Looking forward to sharing!
